The Social Outfit is a dynamic and impactful fashion enterprise that uses a purpose-built model to support refugee and new migrant women, helping them build skills and connections that will support them in gaining ongoing employment within Australia. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2024, The Social Outfit is on track to deliver 100 refugee jobs and 1000 training outcomes in its first decade of operations.

The new CEO will lead the implementation of an ambitious three-year strategy focused on commercial growth, business expansion and social impact.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to apply their commercial skills in a for-purpose setting, to lead with empathy and have a true impact on the fashion industry and the lives of refugee women.

Bringing a wealth of commercial skills to the role the incoming CEO will drive brand strategy, product innovation/diversification and social impact through the operations of an ethical fashion manufacturing studio
and retail store.
 
Key Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Commercial Leadership: Proactively drive commercial and business growth to achieve financial targets and identify opportunities for revenue growth. Drive investment in product strategy, range diversification and brand
marketing to grow the customer base and production capability.

Operational and Impact Leadership: Lead the management and growth of social impact programs including training and employment pathways for refugee and new migrant women.

Financial Management: Oversee the financial performance of the organisation, including developing budgets,setting financial, sales and fundraising targets and managing approved budget allocations.

People Management: Empowering and developing a core leadership team that drives commercial, production
and impact targets. Foster a values-aligned working culture and lead investment in people, culture and systems.

Stakeholder Relations: Proactively manage diverse stakeholder relationships to showcase the organisation. Represent and promote the organisation at public events and with media, funders and other agencies.

Required skillset and experience: 

  • Experience in a CEO or senior management role, including the management of staff and budgets in a brand, retail or manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience in delivering business growth in a commercial setting
  • Values-based leadership experience and the ability to lead with empathy and work with, and for, people from varied cultural backgrounds
  • An understanding of the social and cultural issues facing refugees and new migrants and the impact of these issues on education and employability
  • Sound knowledge of the fashion industry – including the retail environment and manufacturing
  • A detailed understanding of the characteristics and challenges of social enterprise
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills and outstanding presentation and interpersonal skills.

The new CEO needs to exemplify The Social Outfit’s purpose, continuing to create a culture of trust, inclusivity, and performance within the brand whilst also bringing to life its mission statement: To support refugee women
to kick-start their Australian careers.

Key to your success will be a track record of driving strong commercial
growth within a retail, brand or manufacturing environment.
