We are looking for a confident and proactive junior chemist to join our Chemistry team. If you are passionate about working in a laboratory that makes a real difference to public health, this role may be for you!

Reporting to the Chemistry Laboratory Manager, you will be responsible for the preparation of samples for processing, perform basic tests, prepare working solutions and maintaining a clean and hygienic work area. 

Your new role:

  • Prepare samples by weighing, cutting and/or blending in accordance with sample/analysis requirements and preparation methods.
  • Assist Chemistry personnel with analysis tasks so that testing can proceed according to specified time limits.
  • Make up standard and reagent solutions for use in chemical analysis, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Clean and prepare glassware and other equipment for analysis use in the laboratory.
  • Unpack and store consumable items and supplies and report low levels of stock to the Laboratory Manager for ordering.
  • Be able to perform simple Wet Chemistry techniques (pH, Specific Gravity, Moisture).
  • Be able to follow procedures and adhere to Quality standards. 
  • Obtain a purchase order from Admin team and provide sample registration with the sample/s for despatch to external laboratories.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the designated work area to keep the laboratory fit for purpose.
  • Dispose all hazardous waste and spent/surplus samples safely in accordance with the procedure/work instruction.
  • Perform all work in a safe and environmentally conscious manner by following all OH&S policies/procedures/programs.
  • Participate in laboratory team meetings as required.
  • Perform calibration checks on equipment.

Successful Candidate: 

  • Minimum Certificate II or equivalent qualification in a Laboratory or Scientific discipline (essential). 
  • Minimum 1 years of working in a similar laboratory environment (desirable).
  • Quality-focused with excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and the ability to work in fast-paced team.
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of NATA and TGA requirements, as well as working to GLP and GMP standards.
  • Experience using a laboratory LIMS system.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work in a team.
