ABA Trades are a fast growing South Australian business, offering a broad range of services from same-day 24/7 emergency plumbing & gas services through to general maintenance, installations, renovations. It is an exciting time at ABA, as they have just opened their HVAC division and later this year will be opening their electrical division. They are proudly South Australian owned and operated and wanting to scale their business nationally with their already proven formula.

Based in Stepney, the organisation are now at 25+ team members and continuing to grow rapidly and now is the perfect time to introduce a new COO to help take the organisation to the next level.

How you will spend your time:
Due to continued growth, the founder and sole shareholder of the business is seeking to step back from day-to-day operations and focus on the pursuit of other strategic opportunities. We are seeking an experienced executive to lead the business through the next growth chapter.

If you have read the book EOS, Scaling Up or Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman you will understand the perfect match that we are looking for in this position. We are looking for the “Integrator” to support the “Visionary” who is a brilliant executor, loves numbers, dashboards and metrics, knows the things to prioritise when scaling and also has a natural talent for inspiring people and taking them along the ride. 

Reporting to the founder, the COO is accountable for executing the strategic plan of the business and guiding operations to deliver profitable growth on a national stage. We are seeking a proven leader who has a track record of driving performance and scaling growth in similar businesses while maintaining high quality service outcomes for customers and not compromising on safety or compliance. You will be able to demonstrate where you have successfully developed a team in a growing business while maintaining a positive and engaged culture.

This role is new to the business, so we are seeking a candidate who can help to define and establish the scope and responsibilities in partnership with the founder and an established CFO advisor.

Things to celebrate and accountability areas include:

  • Driving EBITDA growth with full ownership of the P&L
  • Successfully scaling the business nationally
  • Effective management of all operations including back office, but excluding Finance/IT/Legal
  • Leading a team of 25+ staff and building a great workplace culture
  • Ensuring effective resource and asset utilisation
  • Overseeing and continually improving all aspects of the employee life cycle
  • Actively promoting positive staff engagement and a safe work environment
  • Leading the planning and execution of sales & marketing activities
  • Delivering exceptional customer experiences with a commitment to quality
  • Maintaining and adding to their existing positive rhythms of execution ie daily huddles, accountability frameworks and weekly professional development sessions
The ideal background we are looking for:
  • Proven track record in a leadership role successfully scaling a similar business nationally
  • Gravitas, presence and the ability to build networks
  • Strong financial literacy and commercial acumen
  • Ability to work autonomously towards agreed goals and budgets
  • Pro-active and decisive approach to resolving issues
  • Ability to successfully manage a team through growth and change
  • High level of customer service skills
  • Excellent communicator with good written and verbal skills
  • Previous experience in the trade industry is beneficial but not essential
