ABC Gardening Australia magazine, Australia’s leading gardening title, is looking for an experienced Chief Sub Editor to join the team.
We’re looking for someone with experience on a comparable market-leading title who can work calmly under pressure and has the capacity to juggle multiple tasks while maintaining faultless accuracy and attention to detail.
The Chief Sub Editor is a key production role within the Gardening Australia Magazine team and is responsible for:
- ensuring the magazine produces engaging, fact-checked, accurate and crafted copy that upholds style and maintains a trusted, authoritative voice
- writing and rewriting copy as required, liaising with contributors to hone and craft copy when needed
- assisting the editor with workflow management
- ushering all copy through the production cycle in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring all layouts are ready for upload within deadline
- managing the work of a direct report
- overseeing all words-related activity for the brand, editing EDMs and content across all digital platforms
- liaising closely with the editor and horticultural editor to ensure all copy reflects brand pillars
- reviewing and refining processes in conjunction with the editor and art director
The successful candidate will be a secateur-sharp wordsmith who loves the world of gardening and is familiar with horticultural language.
They’ll also be a brilliant communicator who enjoys being part of a small, dedicated, hard-working and close-knit team. A sunny disposition and the ability to radiate calm would be a bonus.
In addition, this role entails liaising with the ABC TV team to ensure content reflects ABC editorial policy and tone.
This role reports to the editor and is based in St Leonards, with the facility to work from home when possible.
