Job description

NPY Women’s Council is now recruiting for a Child Advocacy Officer to assist members and staff negotiate Child Protection systems across the tristate area of SA, NT and WA. Sitting in the Child and Family Wellbeing Service (CFWS), the position works primarily with families where children have been removed through child protection interventions, advocating for families in regards to:

access arrangements and support;

legal assistance;

information gathering;

kinship carer identification;

referrals out; and

reunification.

This position takes a rights based approach and commits to the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle, that children are best placed within family, community and culture.

ABOUT YOU

As someone who has experience in advocacy, community development or case management, you will have the ability to acquire an understanding of child protection systems. You have a commitment to using a rights based approach in your work, and your knowledge and experience gives you confidence in advocating for others.

Ideally, you will have a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Law, Community Development or Public Health, and be passionate about working alongside Anangu.

You will receive a comprehensive orientation program as well as best practice supervision and professional development that includes vicarious trauma, case management and four-wheel drive training. We also provide critical incident debriefing and a range of counselling services to support you.

In addition to this, we offer a generous remuneration package. You will receive an above award salary, additional superannuation, salary packaging benefits, 5 weeks of annual leave, 5 days of additional leave, 15 days of personal leave (to care for you and your family) and a retention bonus. We also provide NPYWC accommodation and use of a company vehicle whilst travelling.

At its core NPY Women’s Council is about family and community – Walytja. Our purpose is to work side by side with women, children and their families of the NPY region in central Australia to help increase their capacity to lead safe and healthy lives with improved life choices.
