We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives.What you'll be doingThe Hospital Coordinator , in consultation with the SCHN Executive On Call, is responsible for the overall management of the facility (Children's Hospital Westmead (CHW) or Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick (SCH)) outside of business hours, providing leadership and support to the staff.The Hospital Coordinator has a whole of hospital responsibility. This includes the operational management of patient access and care coordination and in monitoring associated KPI targets such as Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) and Transfer of Care (TOC). The Hospital Coordinator will manage all significant events outside of business hours in consultation with the nominated Executive rostered on call.The Hospital Coordinator is responsible for the professional oversight of nursing and associated support staff working after hours, including the effective management of skill mix, the safe and effective management of nursing resources in relation to emergent leave replacement and associated Work Health and Safety responsibilities.The Hospital Coordinator actively participates in meetings and relevant committees and contributes to the review and development of policies, procedures and strategic direction of the Nursing Services.The position is required to cover the patient allocation role during the day Monday to Friday as required (see separate Statement of Duties). The position requires working a rotating roster.The position reports directly to the Nurse Manager Patient Flow and liaises with Clinical Program Directors, NUMs, department heads, admissions, ward nursing teams, clerical staff, medical staff, and allied health staff.
- Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Relevant post-graduate qualification (or working towards same), or extensive clinical management experience in an acute health care facility.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with advanced negotiation and conflict resolution skills with a proven ability to solve complex operational problems.
- Demonstrated excellent communication, negotiation, decision-making and influencing skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of patient flow.
- Proficiency and computer literacy including working knowledge of staff scheduling and NSW Health Patient Flow Portal.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to contribute to service development, planning and change management.
- Proven ability to function effectively as part of team and to work successfully with other professionals and disciplines.
