About the position:
The Leading Hand Road Maintenance undertakes operational activities associated with the provision of Road Maintenance services to the City of Greater Geraldton, working under direction to ensure all work is carried out within agreed programs and budget constraints and in compliance with all relevant state and federal regulations, City policies, procedures and relevant Australian standards. Additionally, this position provides daily guidance and supervision to direct reports as required by the Line Manager.
This position works a 9-day fortnight, with every second Friday as a non-working day.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead the team in hazard identification and controls through the development of specific JHA and ensuring team accountability. Promote safe work practices and environment through leading by example.
- Maintain the City’s sealed road network assets through undertaking Road Maintenance activities including asphalting, chip sealing and edge patching.
- Provide initiative and guidance to direct reports in daily activities, including coordinating all materials and equipment for use by the team.
- Ensure that all work undertaken by team is to a high standard and within agreed timeframes.
- To carry out/assist with training and inductions for staff within team.

Position requirements:
The successful applicant will ideally have role relevant industry experience or formally recognised qualification, hold a MR Class driver’s license (desirable) and have demonstrated experience in Road Maintenance.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration and benefits:
A salary starting from $75,478 per annum or $38.19 per hour will be offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
