About the Position

The City of Stirling is recruiting for a range of Planning Officers, Strategic Planning Officer and Senior Strategic Planning Officers across permanent, temporary and casual opportunities in both full-time and part-time capacities across the Planning and Development Directorate.

Positions Available within the City Future and Development Services Business Units:

  • Senior Strategic Planning Officer – Schemes, Policies & Heritage team
  • Strategic Planning Officer – City Future Projects team
  • Planning Officer – Planning Services team

The positions are a Level 7 and Level 8 Inside Workforce Agreement positions which attract a salary between $93,235 and $108,559 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will be multifaceted, involving critical tasks related to land use planning, policy development, community engagement and the assessment of a wide range of subdivision and Development proposals. The key responsibilities associated with available positions include:

  • Strategic Planning: You will actively contribute to the preparation of strategic plans and studies. This includes analysing data, identifying trends, and proposing innovative solutions to enhance our city’s development.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: You’ll engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, and residents. Your ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships will be crucial.
  • Policy Advice: Providing expert advice on planning matters is central to this role. You will interpret planning regulations, assess development and subdivision proposals, and guide customers / applicants through the development process.
  • Research and Analysis: Dive into research! Investigate land use patterns, demographic shifts, and environmental considerations. Your analytical skills will help.
  • Assessment and Determination of Subdivision and Development Applications: You will be involved in the assessment and determination of a wide range of subdivision and Development applications.

About You

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.

  • Qualification: A Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning, or a related discipline is highly desired. 
  • Written Communication: A good standard of written communication is essential. You’ll draft reports, correspondence, and policy documents. Clarity and precision matter.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Engaging with stakeholders requires empathy, active listening, and diplomacy. You’ll collaborate with colleagues, community members, and external partners.
  • Planning Knowledge: A solid understanding of planning concepts and regulation, and urban development principles is necessary. Stay informed about industry trends.
  • Behaviours: Demonstrate approachability, integrity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
