Gillen Primary School is an urban primary school situated in Alice Springs. The school has an enrolment of approximately 250 students including preschool. Approximately 70% of the students are Aboriginal Australians. Our values for our staff and students are to be kind, creative and proud. Our Classroom Support Assistants are expected to recognise the importance of learning time and the significance of their role in the teaching and learning team and ensure they make appropriate use of their time with students, seeking direction from teachers or other senior staff as required. Demonstrate cultural awareness and an ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and be willing to undertake professional development to enhance skills in this area. Be punctual, reliable and communicate appropriately.
Qualifications & experience
- Previous school experience is an advantage. Pay rate will depend on the qualifications of the applicant.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher and take direction in order to implement individual educational programs to support student learning
- Assist student learning, either individually or in groups, as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Assist with the collection, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials and with preparing and maintaining an orderly and safe classroom environment by organising learning areas and ensuring teaching resources are prepared for use in the school day.
- Encourage students to increase their level of independence and social interaction with peers and adults in the school.
- Assist in the duties related to self-care and medical needs for students.
- Assist with the recording and collection of data for report preparation to assist with effective communication and processing of information.
- Play an integral role in supervising students in both one-to-one and group instruction, including involvement in yard duty, community-based programs, excursions, to help achieve an effective learning environment and for the wellbeing of students.
