Kowanyama
Located 660km from Cairns, the remote community of Kowanyama is 20km inland from the Gulf of Carpentaria on the banks of Magnificent Creek.
Local amenities include a general store, primary health care centre, canteen, guest house, multi-purpose centre (with fitness equipment), camping grounds, post office and banking facilities. Kowanyama is accessible by road most of the year depending on weather, road conditions and the capability of your vehicle. Both Skytrans and Hinterland Aviation offer a regular passenger service weekdays from Cairns as well as offering air freight services.
Please note Kowanyama is an Alcohol Management Plan community.
About the Role
Travel - Cairns to Kowanyama you will be paid 1 hour prior to flight departure and then once arriving at Kowanyama State School you will work until you have reached 8 hours or until 6.00pm whichever comes first.
While in community you will be employed for 8 hours per day between the hours of 6:00am to 6:00pm which may include a split shift, a split shift allowance will be paid each day a split shift is worked.
Travel - Kowanyama to Cairns you will be paid from the time you start work that day until 1 hour after your flight lands back into Cairns.
Cleaners may be required to undertake two days paid training in Cairns prior to completing any on-site work depending on their experience and service history with the Department of Education which will include:
Mandatory All Staff Training & Student Protection Training
Cleaner training (Workplace Health and Safety)
Aboriginal cultural training and community awareness training
Aircraft getting to and from CESSNA C208 CARAVAN -twelve passengers
De Havilland Canada Dash 8-100 -configured to 36, 28, or 20 passengers
