Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you'll be doing

The Transcultural Mental Health Centre (TMHC) is a NSW Health state-wide service hosted in WSLHD. TMHC provides specialist transcultural mental health services that supplement public mental health services through policy, planning and clinical consultation, professional development, mental health literacy programs and resources.

This position is for a new TMHC project funded to 30 June 2023 to serve specified communities in the Western Sydney Local Health District by providing information, linkage, brief clinical intervention, and health promotion. This position will perform duties with clinical fluency in a specified language and attend to and communicate nuances of emotional wellbeing and psychological health. They will conduct clinical and psychosocial assessment, brief counselling where indicated, and linkage to other services. The position will be responsible for liaising with other health and service providers and organisations, to ensure effective referral and linkage.

Essential Criteria:

Qualification: Tertiary qualifications in psychology. Psychologists applicants must possess an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four- year qualification in Psychology, and be eligible for unrestricted general registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Psychology Board of Australia (PsychBA)
Registration: Full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Selection Criteria: * Experience in providing mental health and psychosocial assessment for consumers, families, and carers from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, including experience with persons from refugee or asylum-seeker communities

  • Bi-lingual / bi-cultural professional capacity in specified language
  • Demonstrable experience in providing care or service to traumatised populations
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with clients across cultures
  • High level of written and spoken communication skills including use of telephone and online modalities
  • Experience in building and maintaining networks with health or welfare providers
  • High level understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and cultural safety
  • Valid unrestricted Drivers Licence
