RCH has cared for the children and young people of Victoria for more than 150 years since it was founded in 1870. A full range of paediatrics and adolescent health services are provided plus tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. The Hospital has more than 6,000 staff, a budget of $850M, 12 wards and 350 beds. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.

About the Role:

This is a ongoing role within the Anaesthesia & Pain Management department. The role operates Monday to Friday with up to 1.0FTE ongoing available, part-time job share arrangements possible. 

You will work closely with the other Clinical Nurse Consultants, Consultant Anaesthetists and Pain Medicine Specialists to provide a comprehensive pain management service at the Royal Children's Hospital. You will be a nurse with pain management and/or paediatric experience and excellent communication skills.

What you’ll achieve:

  • You will promote the implementation of safe, effective pain management practices throughout RCH through clinical audits, protocols and guidelines
  • You will provide support to staff by completing audits in clinical pain management for children with acute or chronic pain
  • You will identify appropriate areas for consultation with patient, carers and teams
  • You will support and promote pain management competency packages for all registered nurses working in clinical areas of the Royal Children’s Hospital

Your skills and experience:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP)
  • Extensive nursing experience (at least 3 years paediatric nursing)
