The Emergency Department at the QEII Jubilee Hospital are looking for a Permanent Part-time Clinical Nurse to join their team. The QEII Emergency Department (ED) offers immediate care for all emergency presentations excluding major trauma and obstetrics and consists of 13 acute bays including 3 paediatric bays, fast track, short stay unit and 3 resuscitation bays, 1 of these paediatric. It is responsible for the triage, assessment, immediate treatment, and disposition of acutely ill patients presenting to the hospital. QEII ED has 57,000 attendances annually and is well supported by a strong multidisciplinary team.

About the Role
The Clinical Nurse Geriatric Emergency Department Initiative (CN GEDI) role provides advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning, and coordination skills in the clinical management of geriatric patients/residents/clients with complex care needs in the Emergency Department (ED), ensuring quality standards are met. This role works autonomously within the healthcare team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing, and delivering of geriatric and emergency specialist nursing care. The CN GEDI provides clinical leadership for professional and clinical practice, education, and research. The role supports in management activities including portfolio responsibilities.
Specifically, the role will:
- Deliver specialist clinical gerontic nursing within the ED for older patients identified as frail including those over the age of 75 years of age and 55 years of age for patients who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
- Facilitate the early identification and coordination of care for geriatric patients presenting to the ED (excluding CARE-PACT patients).
- Conduct timely assessment, intervention and documentation of frailty, geriatric indicators, and goals of care.
- Co-ordinate care including managing inter-professional communication, client/carer communication and care planning of the elderly within the ED.
- Identify barriers/delays to discharge and intervene as required to limit unnecessary time spent in the ED.
- Collect, analyse, and report data (including clinical care delivery) and benchmarking with like roles and facilities.
- Participates and collaborates with GEDI nursing roles at other facilities and the Metro South HHS GEDI Clinical Nurse Consultant.
