Obstetric and Gynaecology Clinical Nurse RN2

  • Peri Operative FTE 0.6 minimum

Applications are invited from motivated and enthusiastic experienced scrub /scout Registered Nurses seeking an opportunity to transition into a leadership role. The Obs/ Gynae Clinical Nurse works in partnership with the surgical team, other Clinical Nurses, Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses. The position reports to the Theatre NUM. Some of the responsibilities are:

  • Carry out staff appraisals and mandatory competencies regularly for staff allocated in the Obs/ Gynae Specialty
  • Ensure guidance and communication is provided to the floor coordinator and the scrub /scout nursing team
  • Ensure a robust educational program is in place to support junior staff and upskill and mentor novice/ GNP nurses
  • Be accountable for maintaining ACORN standards / Guidelines and consolidation of Clinical Practice within the Clinic/ department.

Work in conjunction with other Specialist Clinical Nurses to maintain standards and integrated services

  • Ensure appropriate instrumentation/trays, equipment and consumables are available to meet the needs of the surgical lists, VMO requests and patient needs
  • Liaise and coordinate with VMO's and anaesthetists
  • Participate in policy development, and department quality programs
  • Actively participate on committees and working parties and works effectively as part of the team
  • Provide guidance in the event of an incident and ensure the incident has been fully investigated and corrective actions are rollout and all is recorded in Riskman
  • Ensure all rebatable stock and implants are accounted for and communicated through to the stores/ Prosthetics department
  • Be an active contributor in HICMAR and ACHS Accreditation reviews Essential skills
  • Relevant Post graduate qualification
  • Recent Scrub/Scout nursing skills with a minimum of 5 years' experience
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to lead staff in a manner that is encouraging and supportive
  • Have initiative and keep abreast of developments relevant to the peri operative environment
