This is a strategic Academic Specialist position within the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne. It will involve clinical (optometry), teaching and research responsibilities within the Department, and the Melbourne Eye Care (MEC) clinic, for a Diabetes Eye Screening and Investigation Clinic (DESIC) Pilot Program.This role will be expected to work with a range of interested parties and collaborators including:
- Supervisors within the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences
- Staff and students
- Sub-specialty clinicians in public and private practice
- Local general medical practitioners
- Clinicians and researchers across the University of Melbourne and its research institutes, and
- Industry collaborators
- Providing high-quality patient optometry services to individuals with diabetes
- Providing clinical supervision of Doctor or Optometry (OD) students
- Developing and maintaining the DESIC Pilot Program research participant and clinical database
We are seeking an ideal candidate with a minimum of three years of practicing experience in optometry, coupled with either previous teaching experience or a strong desire and aptitude for teaching. The ideal candidate should possess highly developed interpersonal skills, enabling them to build effective working relationships with a diverse range of collaborators and partners, including clinicians, patients, and researchers. Additionally, demonstrated expertise in managing patients with diabetic eye disease, including proficiency in advanced retinal imaging techniques, would be highly advantageous for this role.You will also have:
- AHPRA registration including endorsement to prescribe approved S4 therapeutic drugs for the management of eye conditions
- Excellent attention to detail, and an ability to adhere to written guidelines and study protocols
- Strong computer literacy, including the Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems
