Job description

These are ongoing, permanent positions at the APS 6 and Executive Level 1 classification levels. Successful applicants can work either full-time or part-time hours out of our offices located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra (Belconnen), Hobart, Melbourne (Docklands), Perth and Sydney, although a hybrid model of working from home and in the office applies.

About the business area

The Technology and Security Division is responsible for the technical infrastructure and applications that drive the work of the ABS. Through its innovative cloud services redesign TSD is leading the way on government systems design and development.

The purpose of the Technology and Security Division is to secure, build, deliver and maintain ICT infrastructure and platforms in support of ABS’ mission of collecting, collating and disseminating official statistics to support decision making across Australia’s public and private sectors.

The Division consists of over 400 people working across State/Territory capitals and ABS regional offices.

About the role

We are looking to fill several Cloud Engineer roles in our Technology and Security Division (TSD) where you will work towards delivery of key ABS work programs, including but not limited to Big Data Timely Insights Phase 2 (BDTI2) and Census.

The BDTI2 work program is contributing towards the critical next steps in the ABS’ 10-year ICT modernisation plan. It is focused on moving significant parts of our data and statistics business to the ABS’ new cloud analytics environment and using this new environment to produce new insights like a complete, monthly measure of the Consumer Price Index (which measures the rate of inflation).

This program will see the ABS build and deploy exciting new data tools that will deliver significant benefits to the ABS and the Australian community over the next four years.

The Census of Population and Housing provides a snapshot of Australia. It shows how our nation changes over time, helps estimate our population and informs critical decisions that guide our future. The next Census will take place in 2026.
