Our Engineering Construction division provides large-scale multidisciplinary project management and construction services. Due to our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for self-driven Commercial Lead. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in providing financial management and systems support across our Engineering Construction division. You will be supporting the Commercial Manager directly and the operational team to collate, analyse and financial performance of projects, assist in preparing budgets and forecasts, provide support to the operational accountants/cost controllers with oversight on project reporting and performance. You will use your accounting knowledge to extract insight, improve processes and implement additional controls by supporting the case for change.
Key responsibilities include:
- Management of overhead costs, providing robust variance analysis and cost forecasts.
- Be involved in the setup of Projects, including budget handover, forecasting and support cost control tools and revenue management.
- Assisting with the month end process which includes reviewing the Project Reports and assisting in compiling the Business Units monthly financials with a focus on accuracy of data and identify levers.
- Identify trends or irregularities and communicate with management
- Investigate anomalies which may require discussions with responsible parties or utilisation of multiple systems to collate data to provide explanation
- Assist with Project performance
- Assist in the annual budget process for the Business Unit
- Engaging and building strong relationships with other divisions
- Provide support to the Business Services managers on financial processes to maximise operational performance including budgeting, forecasting, planning and modelling
- Collaborating and liaising with stakeholders, as well as other team members, from across our business to improve and standardise processes and associated systems to enable seamless transition and integration value add to our business and our customers.
- Investigate and address data integrity issues as they arise
- Respond to requests for reports associated with the payable process e.g. finance reports, payroll costs.
- Meet compliance regulations and external and internal audit requirements
- Scenario and options analysis to assess the impact of changes in assumptions and variables
- Identify relevant data sources and use technology and system knowledge to enhance the quality of analytics and performance measurement and identify opportunities for improvement
- Generate effective reporting and dashboards to support decision making

What you will bring:
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance or Accounting
- Extensive experience demonstrating extensive systems accounting experience, strong commercial acumen, scenario, and option analysis
- You are a Certified Practicing Accountant or Chartered Accountant or are working towards these qualifications
- Relevant industry experience (Resources, Engineering and Construction Industry) would be advantageous but not essential
- Excellent communication skills with proven experience of building relationships at all levels of an organisation

- You demonstrate initiative and ensure that the teams you work with feel confident, informed, and efficient.
- The ability to leverage your analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose business problems and deliver practical, sustainable solutions
- Experience using the Microsoft package, with advanced skill using Microsoft Excel
- Willing to work on a variety of projects and tasks at times working irregular hours
- Previous experience with JDE accounting software (desirable but not essential)
