  • Based in Sydney CBD
  • Ongoing Full Time
  • $457,236 - $505,441 total remuneration payable

Agency Overview

The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) is the lead agency under the Stronger Communities Cluster. DCJ works to enable everyone's right to access justice and help for families through early intervention and inclusion, with benefits for the whole community. Stronger Communities is focussed on achieving safe, just, inclusive and resilient communities by providing services that are effective and responsive to community needs.

Your role

The role of Commissioner (Deputy Secretary) Corrective Services NSW reports directly to the Secretary of DCJ and is accountable for the leadership and management of the Corrective Services NSW.

The Commissioner leads and manages the overall operation of Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW), including the delivery of a range of justice services and programs across the State. The role will also lead the transformation of CSNSW to implement strategic outcomes to enable the safety and security of CSNSW staff and people under the supervision of the agency both within custody and the community.

CSNSW is to deliver major change to enable rehabilitative environments that motivate and promote disengagement from crime through investing in staff and leaders to improve cultural capability and reduce reoffending outcomes. Major work and change are required to close the gap and reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in custody and reduce the number of unnatural deaths in custody towards zero. Action is also to be taken to address recommendations arising from the Astill Inquiry, including leading any future reform into CSNSW.
