The Role

As a Communications and Stakeholder Manager specialising in transport infrastructure, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to support major transportation projects.

This role requires exceptional communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders including government agencies, community groups, and the public.

You will play a vital role in ensuring effective communication and fostering positive relationships to support the successful delivery of transportation infrastructure projects.
  
Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and implement communication strategies and plans aligned with the objectives of transport infrastructure projects. Identify key stakeholders and develop tailored communication approaches to effectively engage with each group.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, businesses, advocacy groups, and other interested parties. Proactively engage stakeholders to gather feedback, address concerns, and build support for project initiatives.
  • Public Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and manage all aspects of media relations related to transport infrastructure projects. Develop press releases, media kits, and other materials to communicate project milestones, updates, and achievements.
  • Community Outreach: Develop and implement community outreach programs to inform and engage local residents and businesses affected by transportation projects. Organise public meetings, workshops, and information sessions to provide project updates, address concerns, and gather input from the community.
  • Digital Communication: Oversee the development and maintenance of digital communication channels, including project websites, social media platforms, and email newsletters. Leverage digital tools to disseminate project information, solicit feedback, and foster dialogue with stakeholders.
  • Crisis Communication: Develop crisis communication plans and protocols to effectively manage communication during emergencies or unexpected events related to transportation projects. Serve as a spokesperson and provide timely updates to stakeholders in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with project teams, engineering consultants, government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency in communication efforts. Coordinate with internal and external partners to integrate communication activities into project plans and timelines.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor public sentiment, media coverage, and Stakeholder feedback related to transportation projects. Prepare regular reports and analysis to track communication effectiveness, identify emerging issues, and inform strategic decision-making.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Urban Planning, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in communications, public relations, or stakeholder engagement roles, preferably within the transportation or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including government officials, community leaders, and members of the public.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, including media relations, community outreach, and digital communication.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning and infrastructure development processes, including an understanding of regulatory requirements and environmental considerations.
  • Experience managing crisis communication situations and responding effectively to sensitive issues or controversies.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including website content management systems, social media management tools, and email marketing software.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities, with a proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills to maintain a high level of communication with all stakeholders to ensure that everyone is up to date on project status.
