Job description

RSL Queensland is a dynamic, not-for-profit organisation delivering innovative programs and initiatives that support veterans and their families.  After more than a century, our purpose – to provide care, commemoration and camaraderie – is as strong as ever.

Whether veterans or their families need employment, emergency financial aid, online health and wellbeing resources and social connection activities, our award-winning services and partner programs deliver real, lasting outcomes.

With Australia’s most successful prize home lottery backing us, we’re able to provide life-changing support services, fund world-first research, and use state-of-the-art tech to help more veterans in better ways. As a member of our team, you’ll have access to advanced technology, skilled co-workers, interesting projects, and the opportunity to expand your career.

And most importantly, you’ll be making a real difference in veterans’ and their families’ lives.

Why work at RSL Queensland. Open, flexible, supportive, empowering - they’re some of things our team love most about RSL Queensland.  Depending on your role, you’ll have the tools and flexibility to work in a hybrid way that balances your lifestyle and the requirements of the team.

What else makes us great:

  • Option to salary package up to $15,900 per year on living expenses, and claim further tax-saving benefits on top
  • Extensive training/development opportunities
  • Bring your whole authentic self to work each dayand be part of a supportive environment
  • You’re gifted 3 additional days of leave at Christmas!
  • Financial support and study leave to undertake higher educational courses related to work
  • Work in an environment that values all voices – have an influence, be the difference!
  • Benefits Hub that includes lifestyle discounts from hundreds of leading stores and services
About the role
Our Service Delivery Team are on the front line, making a profound difference in the lives of others by supporting the needs of our ex-service personnel and their families.

Known as Compensation Advocates, these roles support current and ex-serving Veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs claims process.  Understanding this process can be confusing, time-consuming and stressful, so we assist whether they just need some advice to complete their application or more comprehensive support.

This is a permanent full-time position that will be based in Rockhampton.

About You
This highly customer-focused role enables our customers to get the best possible outcome for their compensation needs, and we do this with patience, kindness and empathy. You will also need demonstrated complex problem-solving abilities and strong attention to detail and accuracy. We also look for:

  • Someone who has proven experience in learning, interpreting and applying complex legislation
  • People who have a proven customer service focus – always putting Veterans and their families first!
  • The ability to apply critical thinking to complex cases
  • Strong emotional intelligence when dealing with sensitive information and cases
  • A team member who will uphold our values and complement our culture and way of working
  • Attention to detail
  • Effective organisation and time management skills
  • Strong ability to navigate new systems and Microsoft programs, to operate effectively in an online environment, including guiding and mentoring our customers to do the same
  • A defence background, whilst great, isn’t necessary to perform this role well. But an understanding of the defence community and its unique challenges is appreciated
  • This role requires some travel within the community, so a current driver’s license is required
Backgrounds that translate well to this space can include claims management (workers compensation and injury management). As part of this role, you will also work towards qualifications under the Advocacy Training and Development Program (ATDP), which will provide a clear career pathway as you complete the levels over a number of years.

Embracing collaboration and innovation, we work as one to lead the change veterans need. We’re not afraid to go the extra mile or seek better ways of doing things. We look out for each other; we value all voices and respect perspectives that may differ from our own; and everything we do, we do with heart.

If this is an opportunity that excites you, please apply today. We’ll close applications when we find the right person, so take action today. Apply For Job
