Job description

Endocrinologist

Applications are sought for suitably qualified medical practitioners for the position of adult Gender Endocrinologist at Monash Health. Applicants must hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) and the position is offered as either a weekly or fortnightly session (3.5 hours) (specific scheduling to be arranged by mutual agreement) for a fixed term 12 month period.

About the Department

The Monash Health Endocrinology Unit runs a clinic specifically for the management of hormone replacement for people, whose care is otherwise managed by the State Government funded Gender Service. Funding is provided from the Gender Clinic to the Endocrine Unit to fund this activity. The endocrinology consulting had been provided since the clinic's inception by Dr Anthony Hunter. Dr Hunter retired after almost 40 years of distinguished service to the Institution and in particular to this underserved group of patients seeking gender affirming hormone therapy. The Unit has undertaken active succession planning such that current consultant staff (Dr Rita Upreti, Dr Rinky Giri, Dr Sarah Catford, Dr Jinghang Luo) continue to build this growing clinic and service.

With an increase in both clinical need and funding, an endocrinologist with relevant experience is being sought to join the consultant staff. The youngest age of patients accepted in the Monash Health Gender Endocrinology clinic is now 16 years old, and many of our patients are aged under 25 years. We therefore particularly welcome endocrinologists with experience working with adolescents and their families.
