The OrganisationJoin a 236-bed regional hospital that services 10 rural hospitals and multi-purpose health facilities across the region. The health service is embarking on an exciting period of growth with a $250m redevelopment of the base hospital to provide an additional 112 inpatient beds and an expansion of outpatient and support services.The Oncology Unit currently has 3 experienced part-time Medical Oncologists. The service provides inpatient ward rounds and daily outpatient clinical services including telehealth to regional hospitals. The day unit is staffed by trained oncology nurses and pharmacists and administers treatments 5 days per week. Although the hospital doesn't have radiotherapy facilities on site, they work closely with their radiation oncology colleagues both at the private oncology facility and at the tertiary referral hospital. The hospital participates in a small number of clinical trials at present and is keen to expand that service with the appointment of another Medical Oncologist.
The Job

• As a Consultant Medical Oncologist, you will join a busy oncology unit already staffed by dedicated Medical Oncologists, nurses, and allied health professionals
• Opportunity for you to take on a leadership role within the team, and further develop the existing oncology service, especially in the area of clinical research
• The Consultant Medical Oncologists provide inpatient ward rounds and daily outpatient clinical services including telehealth to regional hospitals
• Collaborate with the other oncologists in the clinical leadership of the oncology unit
• Oversee the practice and training of the oncology registrars and RMOs
• Guide the care of oncology inpatients, ambulatory outpatients and those receiving infusions
• Work closely with the pharmacy, day infusion staff and oncology nurses in the provision of chemotherapy
• Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings
• Provide consultative inpatient advice to other craft groups
• Contribute to service development

• Total salary package up to $411,562 based on 64hrs p.f (0.8FTE)

Requirements

• Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent
