Job description

Our client, an established public sector healthcare provider, operates a 350 bed secondary care hospital providing medical and surgical services across the southern region of New Zealand. 

This post will see you will join three other Neurologists in an established neurology service managing patients in acute and outpatient settings. There are opportunities to develop subspecialty clinics and such interests are encouraged. Currently the service provide an inpatient consult service, but with successful recruitment, the plan will be to develop a fully staffed inpatient neurology and stroke team.

All standard neurology services are available including stroke thrombolysis, an active botulinum toxin clinic, a clinical neurophysiology unit providing EEG and EMG services, access to an infusion unit for disease modifying MS therapies along with a dedicated headache clinic. There is scope to expand on these depending on the successful applicant areas of expertise.

There are close ties with the neurology, neuroradiology and neurosurgery services in Wellington, the tertiary referral centre for additional care such as stroke clot retrieval.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general neurology services to out patients and acute presentations
  • Work 40 hours per week plus on call duties
  • Teach and supervise resident medical officers (RMOs)
  • Contribute to this hospital's wider medical team as an active and collaborative member.
Requirements
  • Medical Degree recognised by WHO 
  • FRACP or equivalent specialist qualification
  • Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or be eligible for vocational or provisional vocational registration
