About your new role

Within the Environment and Heritage Branch, the Natural Areas Conservation (NAC) business unit is responsible for the day-to-day management and showcasing of a 13,000-hectare estate with significant and diverse biological values. The unit protects and enhances conservation reserves from the McPherson Range to Southern Moreton Bay.
 

The position will lead two teams within NAC, the Conservation Planning team and the Natural Area Activation team.
 

This diverse role requires an outstanding people manager with extensive natural area management, conservation planning and park activation experience and skills.
 

  • Oversee and provide input into NAC’s biodiversity conservation, ecological monitoring, nature based recreation, sustainable built assets, fire ecology, slope stability risk mitigation programs and projects.
  • Deliver conservation planning support services to NAC that includes the prioritisation of day to day park management actions.
  • Forward planning, feasibility assessment, scoping and delivery of nature based recreation opportunities to support the enjoyment of the City’s Natural Areas.
  • Budget, contract and project management to deliver park activation and conservation land management projects.

What you bring to your new role

The successful applicant will have:
 

  • A demonstrated ability to lead teams and support staff to help ensure that they achieve their goals and gain a sense of accomplishment each day;
  • Significant expertise in systematic conservation planning, biodiversity conservation, fire ecology, risk management, conservation land management and team building;
  • Proven contract and business management skills and enjoy the fact that your business skills will positively impact the successful delivery of NAC’s key park activation and conservation projects and services;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A proven track record as people leader who is passionate about the environment and inspiring our community to connect with nature;
  • A focus on and commitment to the safety of your teammates, stakeholders and park visitors;
  • Post-graduate qualifications in a relevant discipline (i.e., ecology, environmental science, conservation land management, risk management, sustainable design, business, project management).
