This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2024 with possible extension and/or permanency

Newman Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint an passionate and motivated individual to fill the role of Coordinator - Rise up Program and join their friendly team.
The Opportunity
The Rise Up Program is based on a whole-school framework focused on encouraging students to Rise up to individual improvement; whether it be student attendance, academic achievement, taking on a leadership role, mentoring others, meeting a set goal, or community engagement.
Through an innovative approach, the program promotes and supports student achievement and wellbeing by providing all students across Years 7 to 12 the opportunity to celebrate success.
The Role
As Coordinator you would seek to improve individual student attendance, academic achievement, leadership, goal setting and community engagement across Newman, based on a whole school framework, focused on encouraging students to Rise up to individual improvement, whether it be student attendance, academic achievement, taking on a leadership role, mentoring others, meeting a set goal, or community engagement.
The Coordinator of the Rise Up Program will be responsible for increasing leadership and community engagement opportunities for Newman Senior High School students by implementing activities that encourage student engagement and sense of belonging to the school and community. The Coordinator will guide the Student Councillors and manage the Tier of Opportunity points system within the school. A key aspect will be to encourage student voice across the program, and to foster a whole school approach to the program. As this role is supported by BHP, through the Pilbara Education Partnership, the Coordinator will also be responsible for managing the partnership budget, and for collecting, analysing and interpreting data to contribute to the Partnership reporting responsibilities.
Expected outcomes of the program are;

  • Increased student attendance and engagement in educational programs is achieved through the provision of coordinated key services to students, families and staff.
  • Process for improving attendance and engagement are established and implemented.
  • Effective strategies and procedures are in place to manage, monitor and improve attendance and engagement of students
  • Program information is collected and analysed, key issues are identified and appropriate strategies are developed.
  • Interagency collaboration is established and coordinated to meet the needs of students.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
  • Well-developed program management skills, including project planning, budgeting, coordination, implementation and evaluation.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of current trends and issues in education in relation to student service provision for disengaged and non-attending students.
  • Well-developed research, analytical and conceptual skills and an ability to plan and coordinate a variety of strategies and programs.
  • Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to identify and develop links between families and appropriate support services.
  • Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to prepare documentation for a range of specific purposes and audiences.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
  • hold a current ‘C’ class driver’s licence
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
