About the Department for Correctional Services

The Department employs approximately 2,000 staff and has responsibility for nine prisons and fifteen Community Correctional offices across the state. Our vision is for a safer community by protecting the public and reducing re-offending. We work towards this through the contribution of staff who are employed in a wide variety of fields, from correctional officers and teachers, to social workers, psychologists and supervisors of court orders. Duties

The Community Corrections Officer, Court Report Writer is:

  • Responsible for the provision of a service to the state's courts and agencies in the Criminal Justice System by undertaking a broad range of assessment, report writing, advisory and referral services.
  • Required to promote an awareness, and use of, the range of Departmental resources and Intervention programs which are available to offenders at the bail, pre-sentence, and post sentence stages by assessing the appropriateness of these resources for individual cases.
  • Required to provide crisis intervention to the defendants and their families.
  • Required to contribute to the planning and development of best practice and the achievement of Regional and team plans and objectives within Community Corrections Central Statewide Operations.

Special Conditions

  • Section 47 of the Public Sector Act 2009 applies in conjunction with other provisions of the act and other applicable industrial entitlements.
  • The incumbent is required to satisfactorily complete a National Criminal History Check.
  • A current South Australian Driver's Licence is essential.
  • A flexible approach to working hours is required.
  • Some interstate and intrastate travel will be required which may necessitate overnight absences.

Requirements

Essential: 

PO: Appropriate tertiary degree qualifications in community services, sociology, criminology, justice, correctional practice, social sciences, human services, health, or related field.

AHP: Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers

Desirable: Nil

AHP2 (86,950 - $100,729pa)

Additional Information 

This is a casual pool for up to 12 months with no guaranteed hours of employment and a 25 percent casual loading applies in lieu of annual and sick leave.
