About the Role

Reporting to Program Lead Delivery, this is a pivotal role within the Service Delivery Portfolio. As the Crew NRM with Fire you will be responsible for:  making a difference and adding to our work environment, within a place where you can learn and perform to your fullest potential.

  • Undertaking NRM activities on various Melbourne's waterways and land assets through a range of techniques including using a range of hand and power tools 
  • Understanding and undertake defined quality control/assurance on activities performed 
  • Taking care of own and colleagues Health and Safety through identification and reporting of hazards and active involvement in improvement initiatives. 
  • Performing routine maintenance on tools and equipment 
  • Prompt and effective response and contribution to Melbourne Water’s firefighting organisation, potentially including first attack fire response activities and tactical on the ground operations 
  • Help to foster a culture of Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
  • A firefighter task-based assessment will be required for this role as well as a fit for emergency medical.
  • A valid Driver’s License as this role requires occasional travel

About you:

  • You have the ability to work proactively as a member of the team, contribute fully to team decision-making and take responsibility for own role in ensuring the safety of all team members and other personnel on site.
  • Demonstrated experience and capabilities working in NRM and/or Land Management, maintenance environment. 
  • You will be required to work in one or more of the following roles (subject to an individual’s training, skills and competency); General Fire Fighter, fire tanker operator, heavy machine operator, or team member of a Forest Fire Management Victoria taskforce. 
  • Certificate or Diploma in Environmental disciplines or relevant related work experience. 
  • Other qualifications such as Industry White Card, Chainsaw Ticket, Chemcert etc. 
  • Problem solving skills, including the ability to deliver the appropriate outcomes. 
  • Preparedness to work under adverse conditions and weather. 
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public. 
  • Ability to work and contribute in a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously. 
  • Must reside permanently within 25 minutes driving time of Work Centre – Woori Yallock.  
  • Be available for out of hours availability (24 hour a day recall to work) and out of hours emergency response (when rostered). 
  • Be available to go on a fire roster during the fire season.
  • Annual Leave over the Summer fire period will be restricted.

This is a full-time role based at our Woori Yallock Work Centre with travel required to field based sites and assets throughout Melbourne Waters network
