Crop Technician

Atwal Family Trust requires a full time Crop Technician. The position is to work closely with the owner to develop methods in farming practices maximising the production of blueberries and to test and inspect the land, in particular the soil, to ensure the quality of land is sustainable for produce. 

Your duties will include the following:

• Assist the owner with implementing new methods of planting, fertilising, harvesting and processing blueberries to achieve optimum land usage
• Examining physical and soil characteristics of farmland to determine its most as effective use and identify nutrient deficiencies
• Co-ordinate the testing and inspection of soil
• Identifying parasites, insects and weeds harmful to the blueberries, and researching ways to control them and stop them from spreading or harming the blueberries
• Work with the fruit inspector to ensure the methods and testing undertaken are sufficient to meet blueberry quality standards
• Collecting and collating data around plant and insect disease for research
• Arranging the supply of chemicals to farmers and managers, and giving advice on their use, ensuring it complies with WH&S
• Assist the owner with planning harvesting and other aspects of production processes
• Assist the owner on farming techniques and management
• Assist the owner with marketing the farm products, and planning the production accordingly.

Your desired skills and knowledge will include:

• Experience and knowledge in soil, chemicals, pesticides and fungicides and the safe application and use of each;
• Knowledge and experience of agricultural production principles;
• Applicants must be physically fit, prepared to work in all outdoor conditions and be willing to learn all aspects of the position.

You MUST have at least a Diploma level qualification in a relevant field and at least 3 years experience in the same or a very similar role.  Must be available to work weekends.

Salary offered is $70,000
