Job description

Details of Appointment

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies on a permanent or fixed term basis.
Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties
  • To act as Solicitor and Counsel in routine, complex and critical civil matters and appeals on behalf of the State of Tasmania, its instrumentalities and Agencies before a range of courts and tribunals, with a particular emphasis on claims made by those who, as children, were the subject of abuse whilst in care.
  • To provide comprehensive, accurate and timely advice to the State and its Agencies in respect of civil law matters.
  • To provide professional supervision, direction and instruction as may be required to junior legal practitioners in the Abuse in Care team.
  • To participate in performance management and file reviews as directed by the State Litigator.
Essential Requirements
  • Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Registration Status - Employment).

• Crimes involving Conspiracy

2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.

Desirable Requirements
  • A minimum of seven years relevant experience.
  • Drivers licence.
