About The BUSY Schools…

The BUSY Schools are part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation presenting over 45 years as a community partner providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring, NDIS, disability employment support, and allied health services.

The BUSY Schools are independent Special Assistance Schools with 7 campuses across Cairns, Brisbane, and Gold Coast/Coolangatta, providing an alternative program for Year 11 and 12 students who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education.

Each campus provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team support the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increases their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes.

Our teams’ focus is centred at re-engaging our students to learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon student’s graduation from Year 12.


About the position...

The BUSY School is a Special Assistance School offering alternative education for students in Years 11 and 12 who have disengaged from traditional schooling. At The BUSY School, students re-engage in education to complete senior school while gaining a head start into employment through vocational training pathways that form part of their curriculum. In Victoria, the school will offer a supportive environment where students complete school subjects and vocational education and training studies to remain eligible for The Victorian Certificate of Education, Vocational Major (VCE VM) and progress towards employment or further education and training outcomes. 

The primary purpose of the position is to undertake the development of the Learning Program, and Curriculum and Assessment Plans, while consulting on other aspects of the application for registration. To realise our strategic intent to open a campus in January of 2025, the application to the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) must be completed by the end of June 2024. Successful completion of this project could result in similar contracts interstate, or potentially a role on the campus staff. The role is a 3 month contract to begin but may be extended into a contract part time role or alternatively re-engaged to a permanent full time role when the campus opens in 2025.

About you...

  • You hold full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration as a Teacher in Queensland
  • Ability to work within the curriculum of secondary education
  • Demonstrated proficiency within a highly regulated environment, with regards to documentation, record keeping, reporting and compliance
  • Extensive knowledge of, and experience in, working with curriculum
  • High level of time management skills and attention to detail
  • A relevant degree in secondary education 
  • Proven ability to model quality senior secondary teaching and learning skills utilising a broad range of learning strategies, technologies and techniques
