Form of workFamily operated Dairy Farm is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team. Located 10 minute drive from Pyramid Hill, Central Victoria. Approximately 45 minute drive from Echuca. We milk 250 cows at peak. Milking twice daily, all year round. The dairy is a 25 swing over with ACRs. Split calving, 70% in Spring, 30% in Autumn. Cropping program including hay, silage, grain, and pasture rotation. Property has an irrigation program (with permanent water holding). Beef herd also run on the property.
The position involves all day-to-day work of our Dairy Farm operation. We are looking for an experienced person with strong communication skills, someone who is self-motivated and must have the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. A current drivers licence is essential, a HR licence would be an advantage.
This Farmhand position has the potential to grow into a Senior Farmhand role.
Duties include planning and coordinating of daily operations of the farm in consultation with farm owners. The position requires a range of knowledge and experience in the following areas;
- milking, cleaning milking area, sterilising milking plant,
- monitoring and treatment of herd health, including mastitis, teat damage, lameness, heat detection, and calving related matters,
- herding cattle and maintaining feed rotations,
- calf rearing, including maintaining calf rearing areas, feeding, monitoring growth and general health,
- monitoring and ensuring maintenance of milking plant, fencing, and irrigation infrastructure,
- maintaining tractors, trucks, implements, and other machinery to ensure they remain in working order,
- assisting with seasonal work including sowing, mowing, raking, baling, silage, and harvest,
- assist with general farming activities such as fertilising, controlling pests and weeds, and growing fodder,
- knowledge on irrigation is not essential however willingness to learn the program would be ideal,
- knowledge in animal husbandry, dairy production, and OH&S.
Working on a roster based system, including weekend work. Additional hours of work when the need arises seasonally.
