About the team – The Sports Intelligence & Analytics team leverages data to enhance athlete performance and deliver a competitive advantage to Australia’s high-performance system. The team delivers data engineering, data analytics, data science and data governance support and leads the administration of the Athlete Management System for the Australian high-performance system. About the role –
About the role – We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to support key strategic projects across the AIS. They will support the implementation of advanced analytical methods, techniques, and capabilities to analyse data, generate insights, create value and drive evidence-informed decision making.
- In consultation with team managers, implement the organisational strategic agenda to achieve section and business outcomes.
- Actively promote and role model the AIS values of Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Teamwork, and contribute to positive organisational change, effective communication, and continuous improvement at the AIS
- Work collaboratively as part of a high performing team/organisation, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with key internal and/or external stakeholders to lead and deliver high quality business outcomes.
- Assist in the delivery of quality advice and reporting on relevant issues to senior management. About you –
About you –
Essential:
- Experience utilising a state-of-the-art data stack, including cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Snowflake), visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Streamlit), and deployment platforms (e.g. Git)
- Proven experience working with SQL and Python
- Project or work experience wrangling and mining data
- Project or work experience developing, deploying and evaluating statistical & ML models
- Strong data storytelling skills and the ability to communicate complex insights in a practical fashion to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work collaboratively in a specialised, cross-functional team to deliver world class outcomes for Australian sport
Desirable:
- Qualification in data science, computer science, mathematics, economics, or a related field
- Affinity for and / or a keen knowledge and interest in high performance sport would be an advantage.
This position is offered as an Ongoing, Full-time position.
