The University of Melbourne seeks an exceptional new Dean for the Melbourne Law School (MLS) to lead the School with purpose, clarity and energy through its next chapter. In taking up this position, the successful applicant would be responsible for the ongoing academic, research and resource management of the leading Law School in the Asia Pacific and the best Law School in Australia.
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will be both a distinguished Professor and a leader of considerable standing and experience. Able to lead, grow and inspire world class scholars and partners, the Dean will have the capacity and resolve to build deep and respected relationships within and outside the School, to maintain the highest levels of academic excellence and build local and global impact, and to strengthen the School’s international standing and reputation.
The Dean will also play a major role in senior University leadership through their membership of the University Executive and contributions to cross-university collaboration.
Relevant Experience and Qualifications
The successful applicant will have international standing and a record of research and teaching achievements in a relevant field in law, and able to represent and promote the School locally and internationally. A visionary leader able to lead a school of the highest calibre academic and professional staff, they will have had deep experience in a world leading University, and be able to traverse the national and international landscape. They will be adept at leading the strategy of the school and the implementation of its initiatives, ensuring ongoing financial sustainability through effective management of its resources.
