The Role
The Shipbuilding Designer is responsible for undertaking detail design project tasks as well as day to day naval architectural work assignments, including production support and guidance for subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Basic and detailed design of the ship hull and superstructure as well as further ship structures using CAD-Systems by applying relevant Class Society regulations and other applicable standards Integration of systems, equipment, cable and piping penetrations and further in-house designed and tailored mechanical, outfitting or interior components.
- Establishment of shop floor drawings, overview drawings, detail catalogues, bills of material and equipment (inclusive of maintenance), conduct weight and center of gravity calculations of ship sections as well as minor strength calculations .
- Stability calculations acc. to statutory requirements.
- Lifting calculations in accordance with applicable rules, standards and regulations.
- Production support during the building process.
- Good communication, proactively gathering required information, seek independent clarifications especially with regards to interfaces.
- Collaboration with production, other Design Departments, Procurement, Planning, Quality/V&V and suppliers.
- Liaise with production to adjust to production-orientated solutions, to solve issues on-site and to gather feedback for future improvements.
Requirements
- Degree qualified naval architect with knowledge and experience in naval surface ship stability and naval architecture.
- Previous experience in Shipbuilding (design or production) are an advantage.
- User skills with 3D-CAD software are essential (user skills in Siemens NX are of special advantage)
- Familiar with stability standards.
- Familiar with Classification society rules.
- Competent knowledge in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is presumed.
- Strong communications skills and solution-oriented attitude.
- Experience in Defense projects is an advantage, but not required.
