GM Technology & Major Cap Group | ICT Division | Traveller Cargo & Trade Systems | Cargo & Trade Capability Projects

The Cargo & Trade Capability Projects (CTCP) Section manages and delivers key projects in the cargo and trade domain, including the Home Affairs technical components of the Cargo & Trade Capability whole of government program of work. The work of the team helps to integrate disparate systems, de-risk our legacy cargo and trade systems, and build foundational capability for modernised systems within the cargo and trade domain.

Our ideal candidate

The Typescript Developer is responsible for design, development and implementation of software programs to support and enhance a range of applications within the section. To achieve the intended outcomes, the Developer will be required to work collaboratively within a team environment, engaging effectively with business areas and other relevant internal and external stakeholders.

We are looking for someone with technical knowledge of, and experience working with, AWS development platforms; and the ability to provide continuous service and system improvements where required in supporting critical business functions for the Australian Border Force.

Our ideal candidate will have experience with:

  • Programming Languages: Angular, Typescript, Javascript, NodeJS
  • Markup Languages: HTML, XML, CSS
  • Platforms: AWS (Especially Lambda, S3, API Gateway)
  • Source Control: Git
  • CI/CD tools: Azure DevOps Repos, Azure DevOps Pipelines
  • Unit Testing: Jest
  • Code Quality Tools: SonarQube (or similar)
  • IaC Tools: Pulumi (or similar tools that utilize the concept of Infrastructure as Code)
  • Backend Frameworks: Java, Spring, Hibernate
  • Database Languages: SQL
  • IDEs: VSCode (or similar)

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop code for new and existing IT systems.
  • Perform analysis of issues and problems and assist in preparing fixes for implementation.
  • Perform unit testing, develop system test cases and assist in testing of business applications.
  • Perform technical verification tests for relevant services & upgrades provided by other teams/sections.
  • Follow coding standards and best practices as outlined within the team/section or Department as a whole.

Additional information

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in information technology, software development or a related area, or equivalent experience or working towards qualification.
  • A high level of demonstrable skills and experience in application development.

  • Experience with the relevant platforms used to develop applications (AWS).
  • Experience with the relevant SDLC Tools used to develop applications (git, Azure DevOps).
  • An example of your ability to solve technical problems and the methodologies you employed to do so.
  • An example of your ability work as part of a team to achieve outcomes.

When you include an example, you should clearly explain:

  • The situation or problem.
  • Your personal role in the task.
  • The methods you used.
  • Any barriers you were able to overcome.
  • The outcome.

Try not to duplicate information that can already be found in your resume, but do highlight any specific examples or achievements that will demonstrate your ability to perform at the advertised classification.

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).

The Department of Home Affairs offers an attractive remuneration package, including salary, superannuation benefits and flexible working conditions appropriate to the level of the position.
