Newman Operations – FIFO or Residential 


   With this role you have the choice of either being residentially based in Newman or fly-in fly-out on an 8/6 7/7 roster. 

You will be working across both sites at Newman Operations. Newman Operations West is more than five kilometres long and nearly 1.5 kilometres wide, making it the biggest single-pit open-cut iron ore mine in the world. Newman Operations East is made up of several deposits and contributes to the overall ore production of the Newman Joint Venture hub.

About the Role

Reporting to the Supervisor Dewatering you will carry out installations as well as planned and unplanned maintenance activities at our Whaleback operations.

In this role you will:

  • Promote and consistently follow the standards and procedures designed to enable you to work safely and effectively every day
  • Carry out required in-pit Dewatering Equipment inspections
  • Install, maintain and repair Dewatering pipework and systems. 
  • Adhere to work management plans including completing assigned work as per the approved schedule and creating detailed notifications for future work that needs to be completed
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on Dewatering Assets and infrastructure
  • Assist the Supervisor in identifying and implementing improvement initiatives that create value to the business from a Dewatering maintenance perspective
  • Ensure area tooling and equipment required for water assets works are in working condition according to the manufacturer’s requirements and tested to the site requirements


About You

  • Proven commitment to look after your own wellbeing and the confidence to speak up when others put themselves in harm’s way
  • Australian recognised Mechanical or Plumbing Trade Qualifications preferred but not essential.
  • Polywelding experience preferred but not essential
  • Exposure working in mining environments with experience in Dewatering considered advantageous
  • Experience working with hydraulics and understanding pump pressures and flows
  • Experience in installation and removal production bores, sump/transfer pumps
  • Experience working with work management program SAP
  • HR or HC Drivers Licence preferred but not essential.
  • Current Australian C Class Drivers Licence
  • Forklift, Dogging, Basic Rigging and HIAB High Risk Work Ticket desirable
