As the Director, Legal Services, you will lead and be responsible for:
- leading the provision of Legal Services to the Director-General and the Executive Leadership Team, including drafting and approving legal documentation, preparing and reviewing advice on complex and sensitive issues, and undertaking other project work as required. This will include matters across the broad spectrum of legal advice, including, on property, employment, commercial, contractual, litigation and administrative law matters
- proactively contributing legal advice and insights to senior executives and senior leadership teams within the department on a broad range of strategic and operational issues, through the provision of professional, high level independent, full and frank legal advice
- developing and maintaining highly effective collaborative relationships to effectively manage complex and sensitive enquires, disputes, variations, risks and undertake negotiations at the highest levels with various stakeholders, including government entities, the community, political and industry groups, service providers, and the business sector
- act independently, autonomously and with exemplary integrity, ensuring compliance with government policies and alignment with priorities and championing best legal practice
- lead a small team of legal professionals, and manage legal case loads, including managing workflow, conflicting priorities and timeframes, and briefing external legal providers to ensure deliverables are met and ensuing contemporary practice standards
- represent the interests of the department as required in complex and sensitive engagements.
Mandatory requirements:
To be appointed to the Director, Legal Services position you must:
- be a lawyer who has been admitted to practice for at least five years; and
- have, or be immediately eligible to obtain, a practising certificate in Queensland.
