About Us
The Tasmanian Parliament has consisted of two Chambers - the Legislative Council (upper House) and the House of Assembly (lower House) - since 1856. The House of Assembly is the House of Government and the Party that has the support of the majority of Members in this Chamber generally forms the State Government. The Legislative Council is seen as a House of Review. Its primary role is providing a check on, and balance to, the lower House by providing additional scrutiny of legislation and decisions of the Government-dominated House of Assembly.
Legislature-General provides joint services to support Members and employees of the Parliament. These services include, finance and corporate services, building and maintenance, ICT, library and research, catering and dining and Hansard.
Inspiring Leadership
Reporting to the Clerk of the Legislative Council and the Clerk of the House of Assembly, the newly created position of Director, Legislature-General has been established as the key leadership role for the Legislature-General.
Making a Difference
The role is responsible for providing independent, expert and authoritative timely advice on strategy, risk management, people leadership, compliance, change management, and digital transformation.
