Make use of your diverse skill set at a business that values your expertise and turn your potential into reality.Job DescriptionPurpose of your roleAs part of the Technology management team, this role will provide overall leadership and direction for OFX’s Capability Platforms, including the software engineering discipline to ensure core business goals are supported and successfully executed on.Your primary responsibility will be building a practice of highly skilled and motivated software engineers and engineering managers, that are assigned to work in highly autonomous, cross-functional and empowered delivery teams. You will contribute to the OFX business objectives by coaching your direct reports to work as high performing teams, developing the culture and practices that ensure that every individual understands and is contributing to the overall Technology strategy.You will collaborate with the Technology management team, including Engineering Directors, Head of Portfolio & Release Planning, Information Systems, and Security, to deliver impactful outcomes for OFX. You will also work with the Product division, and business stakeholders to ensure your portfolio delivers business value and aligns with the Technology strategy, security and compliance requirements, and budget.Working with the Technology Management team, you will agree on cross-practice strategies for talent & resource management, engagement & delivery, vendor and technology standards, enterprise architecture, risk management and engineering tooling and culture. Outside of these common standards, the Engineer Director is responsible for the frameworks, methodologies, resource development, technology solutions and the operating model within the Product Platforms practice.In addition to your background in software engineering and people management, you need soft skills in relationship building, team leadership, motivation, communication, and stakeholder management. You will ensure teams understand the vision, establish processes, facilitate collaboration, and make critical (sometimes tough) decisions to achieve delivery outcomes in an inclusive and overall enjoyable environment.What you do
  • Set a Technical vision and define the strategy for the Capability Platforms domain including Payments, Treasury, FX, Pricing, Data, Cloud and Engineering platforms
  • Ensure engineering and other practices and processes are defined, communicated, evolved and adhered to within your practice
  • Lead architectural direction and decision making within your practice
  • Effectively manage Tech Debt and software costs within your practice
  • Management of Technology vendors, including financial budget, within your practice
  • Set effective metrics and delivery methodologies in Delivery teams to ensure success
  • Delegation and training of individuals within your team to ensure empowerment, autonomy and professional development while ensuring overall delivery objectives are achieved
  • Management and mitigation of technology risks using proper governance
  • Manage technology costs effectively including resourcing, vendors and infrastructure (where possible)
  • Work with Product leads to identify metrics for products are identified a part of the delivery process and measured post release
  • Ensure all product platforms are secure, reliable and built to scale
  • Professional development of direct reports, identifying and nurturing high performing resources while effectively managing underperforming resources
  • Ensure all direct reports have clear and measurable objectives which adhere to the divisions approach and relate to team, product and organisational metrics
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders, both Technology and other business divisions including effective ongoing communication approaches
  • Work with the CTO, People and Culture and your peers in Product and Technology to evangelise OFX and Technology across the industry for the development of future OFX talent acquisition
QualificationsValuable Experience
  • Minimum of 15 years in software development experience and 5 years leading Development Teams in fast paced and complex environments
  • Minimum of 3 years managing other people managers and managing a team that works in a cross-functional delivery model
  • A background in software architecture and ideally some consulting experience
  • Experience in vendor selection, onboarding and management
  • Experience managing technology costs effectively including resourcing, vendors and infrastructure
  • Strong stakeholder management experience with an excellent understanding of Agile development methodology and development practices such as TDD, Kanban, Lean, etc.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment and Configuration Management and how to continuously improve to deliver business outcomes
  • Strong technical leadership of teams with Cloud native environments preferably AWS
  • Experience in designing and building highly scalable, secure and supportable cloud software.
  • Experience with distributed source control systems (such as Git)
  • Experience with Cloud Infrastructure (AWS required, GCP preferred) and managing cloud engineering teams
Highly Desirable
  • Experience in risk and regulated environments and preparing controls to ensure compliance
  • Experience in .NET (required) and TypeScript (preferred)
  • Experience with software architecture principles and ability to lead architectural decisions
  • Experience developing web-based, service-oriented applications and integrated back-office systems
  • Experience with data engineering, delivering scalable data solutions and event streaming
