We are currently seeking applications for the full time role of Director of Music and Arts to join our dedicated team.
The responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:
- Program Management
- Continuous Improvement
- Program monitoring and reporting
- Coordinating and teaching Instrumental Music
- Coordinate Band Camp and other performances
- Stakeholder engagement
We are looking for a self-confident, results-driven individual with excellent time management and organisation skills who has the ability to work in an extremely busy environment and manage conflicting priorities.
About us
The Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy (CYAAA) is part of Good to Great Schools Australia (GGSA); a not-for-profit in a unique partnership with Education Queensland for 2 primary school campuses at Coen and Hope Vale in Cape York. The Academy aims to close the academic achievement gap between Indigenous and mainstream students and to support Cape York's children bi-cultural identity.
Our Coen and Hope Vale campuses have implemented the Direct Instruction (DI) model developed by Siegfried Englemann and the Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) model developed by John Hollingsworth and Dr Silvia Ybarra.
Music holds a significant place in the CYAAA curricular and co-curricular program. We understand the importance of fostering creativity and imagination, and providing opportunities for self-expression.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum of 3 year's work experience working as an instrumental teacher/instructor
- Current full registration or eligibility for full registration, as a teacher in Queensland
- Possession of a relevant education or teaching degree from a recognised tertiary institution, and a demonstrated high level commitment to develop and maintain professional knowledge and skills
- Possession of a qualification in music from a recognised tertiary institution
- Ability to use a variety of instruments
- Experience teaching instrumental music
- Experience organising and teaching a band and choir
- Experience organising performances and band camp
- Ability to obtain a working with children check (QLD Blue Card) and Federal Police check
Desirable Criteria
- Understanding of the political and legal framework in which the organisation operates
- Knowledge of Cape York Peninsula; its peoples, cultures and environments
