Public Transport is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible and accountable for the management and performance of today's Victorian heavy and light rail, tram, bus and interurban coach networks. We manage franchisees, operators, contracts, leases, assets and projects, ensure compliance, provide assurance and enable collaboration across DTP to optimise customer outcomes and value for money.

About the Role

This is a fixed term SES 1 role

As the Director ofRail Projects and Asset Performance, you will be entrusted with the leadership of the metro trains project team and the Asset Performance team for light and heavy rail. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the delivery of metro train capital projects including the maintenance and renewal of assets as well as providing technical assurance across heavy and light rail, focusing on safety infrastructure,. These projects including the renewal and maintenance of assets are crucial in facilitating the ongoing enhancement of the network, as well as supporting the introduction of new rolling stock and timetabled services.

Integral to this role is the accountability for fostering a culture of high performance and inclusiveness within the organisation. You will actively model the Department of Transport and Planning's values, ensuring that they are upheld throughout all aspects of project delivery, asset assurance and team management.

Position Outcomes

We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated success in overseeing and delivering strategies for capital works Projects and the assurance of assets based on completed works , with a specific focus on safety infrastructure. . Your leadership in this area will be crucial in ensuring the continuous improvement and efficiency of the network's operations.

Additionally, you will have a proven track record of leading the development of workforce capability in program and project management preferably within transport infrastructure setting. Your ability to enhance the skills and expertise of your team members will result in the efficient and effective delivery of Projects and assurance of assets, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of the public transport network.

Qualifications and role specific requirements

  • Experience in the oversight and management of complex commercial contracts.
  • Experience in project management and a strong understanding of the principles of project management and Asset assurance leading to successful delivery outcomes.
  • Experience in working with senior leaders internally and externally
  • Tertiary Qualification in Project Management, Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
