The role
The Director of Studies, Adelaide (DoS) oversees the operations of the ELICOS department in their Adelaide campus. The DoS is a leader that drives the company mission of providing supportive and high-quality courses to our students. The DoS also works closely with the academic management team to inspire their teachers, bring positivity and creative thinking to the staffroom, think outside the box with new and exciting methodology and teaching approaches, and look after staff and students by bringing out the best in everyone. The company is making a rapid return post-pandemic, thus agility, forward-thinking, and strong organisational skills are strongly desired.
In this role you will
- Management of the academic team ensuring high quality learning and teaching in the department
- Conduct yearly performance appraisals with all teachers
- Motivate, supervise, and support teaching staff in the performance of their duties
- Conduct and promote teacher and peer observations
- Actively engage in discussions with teachers on latest learning and teaching methodology
- Conduct regular surveys and collect feedback from stakeholders to ensure the learning and teaching experience in the classroom is of high quality
- Coordinate the testing and placement of new students into classes and manage class allocations
- Report on student numbers and new class openings with the Director of Education on a weekly basis
- Ensure all new and existing students are given adequate information about classes, offerings, and social activities
- Counsel students who have queries about their class, teacher, study plan, or course
- Conduct weekly meetings with the teaching staff
- Work with the Director of Education to review current and develop new courses including course syllabi, materials, and assessment tools
- Contribute towards the continuous curriculum maintenance and quality assurance according to industry standards and developments
- Ensure curriculum development involves teaching staff by regularly collaborating and collecting feedback from teachers and students
- Oversee campus maintenance and regularly coordinate with student services to keep the staffroom, classrooms, and common areas safe and presentable
What you'll need to succeed
- Tertiary qualifications in Education
- A post-graduate level TESOL qualification such as MA TESOL, DELTA, or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ management and leadership experience in English language schools
- Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching English at a variety of levels and offerings (General English, Exam Preparation, EAP, etc.).
