Job description

The Role

We have multiple Director positions within Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation’s (AGO's) GEOINT Capability Delivery branch (GCD).

AGO is responsible for the delivery of cutting-edge capability, which supports the Australian Defence Force, the National Intelligence Community (NIC), and other areas of government.

This is done in AGO’s GCD branch. This branch has project managers, support officers, systems engineers, ICT security specialists, systems architects, business analysts, finance specialists, contracting and procurement officers who all work together, and with customers, to design, build and sustain GEOINT capability.

The EL 2 roles span multiple domains (classified and unclassified) and cover capability delivery and operation.

As a Director you will be responsible for leading a team of APS, contractors and potentially ADF members to plan, deliver, or operate AGO’s platforms. This could include the planning for continuous maturation and improvement of capabilities on these platforms (including software and hardware replacements), and the consolidation of systems where appropriate and applicable.

You will need to engage with a broad range of stakeholders across the Defence Intelligence Group, broader Defence, the National Intelligence Community and internationally, and build rapport with our partners and customers.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For further information, please contact the contact officer.

About our Team

AGO is a high-performing, supportive and inclusive workplace.

Our team is committed to Defence’s mission: to defend Australia and its national interests, promote security and stability, and support the Australian community. We are a highly respected member of Australia’s national intelligence community and the Five Eyes.

This is what some of the GCD team have said about working in AGO:

  • Very interesting technology that we get to work with, often trying to lead ahead of the capability demand – high performance compute, networks, storage.
  • Engagement and collaboration across Australia’s NIC and Five Eyes partners in systems development and integration.
  • A main driver for why I wanted to work for AGO is continued service to Defence (after leaving Army), supporting development of capability that has current and future real effects.
  • I have never worked as part of a more supportive team. From day one everyone has been so helpful!

Our Ideal Candidate

We want authentic leaders who can provide clear direction and build trust, while guiding, developing and empowering our people. You will be part of a diverse team with responsibility to maintain and enhance our inclusive, supportive and innovative culture.

To succeed in the role, you must demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership credentials and a focus on outcomes.
  • A positive and proactive approach to engagement with stakeholders.
  • A general understanding of ICT systems.
  • Experience in service delivery and/or capability delivery and/or program or project management and/or ICT security and/or project governance, depending on the specific role.

We recruit candidates of all backgrounds, skills, cultures, genders, neurodiversity, and abilities. If you are questioning whether you meet every requirement in the job advertisement, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for other roles within AGO. Whether you are returning to the workforce or exploring a career change, we want you to apply.

Application Closing Date: Thursday 11 July, 2024
