Job description

Leading whole-school inclusive practices:

  • Support the embedding of inclusion and disability expertise in strategic planning and recruitment practices within the school
  • Support the embedding of evidence-based inclusive education and human rights obligations into school policies and plans
  • Promote a culture of high expectations and aspirations for the learning of students with disability or additional needs
  • Oversee the Koorie Education plan for the school including, leading the IEP/SSG process for Koorie students, organising excursions/incursions for Koorie students and leading whole-school events for key dates such as Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week
  • Regularly work with the Wellbeing Team to support students
  • Co-ordinate with external services to support priority students
  • Develop plan for the identification and support of students with additional needs who are not funded under Disability Inclusion

Leading the transition to Disability Inclusion:

  • As a key member of the Inclusion Team, oversee the transition to Disability Inclusion from the previous PSD system of funding
  • Work with school leaders (Learning Community Leaders, Leading Teacher ¿ Inclusion, Assistant Principals) to identify students who require a Disability Inclusion Profile and lead the process of accessing relevant assessments (eg. Vineland), gathering assessments and collating key information from all stakeholders
  • Oversee the booking and administration of Disability Inclusion Profile Meetings
  • Oversee the completion of IEPs for all required students and work with staff to ensure that IEPs translate into appropriate adjustments and support in the classroom and school environment
  • Ensure regular monitoring of IEPs are completed throughout the year through the organisation of SSG meetings
  • Support the building of staff capacity to understand, develop and implement IEPs and appropriate goals
  • leading supportive practices for priority students
  • Support the building of staff capacity to understand the levels of adjustments and how to implement this within the classrooms to best support students
  • Participate in the Year 6 to 7 Transition program to support students entering the College who require additional support and work with all stakeholders to commence the process of applying for a DIP for these students

Leading and developing the capacity of the whole-school inclusion team:

¿ Lead the Inclusion Team working towards a consistent vision for student support related to inclusion and diversity, including the facilitation of weekly team meetings

  • Construct and maintain budgets and funding use plans to ensure optimisation of resources
  • Construct, maintain and regularly review schedules of Inclusion Support Staff for in class support and direct other duties as required
  • Monitor and evaluate notetaking processes to ensure consistency across the Inclusion Team through the use of a common template for documenting student support
  • Ensure clear role descriptions for all team members are in place, as well as ensure all team members are working according to the team norms and expected behaviours
  • Ensure staff have appropriate external supervision and debriefing processes to support them in their roles
  • Identify, facilitate and/or organise professional learning and other opportunities to build staff capacity, including overseeing the professional learning program for the team
  • Regularly review team operations and adjust to optimise team dynamics and functionality

General:

  • Act as a key member of the College's Inclusion Team, working with the Assistant Principal ¿ Inclusion and Wellbeing and the Leading Teacher ¿ Inclusion
  • Contribute to the vision of inclusion at KWRSC and support this in everyday interactions with staff
  • Build sustainable partnerships
  • Attend and complete all relevant DE professional learning
  • Ensure regular communication to all stakeholders
  • Support data collection for College programs
  • Develop and lead staff professional learning related to Disability Inclusion and creating inclusive classrooms as required
  • Prepare and share regular reports regarding students requiring Tier 2 and 3 support
  • Other duties as directed by the Principal Team
