Do you love to travel? Do you love being part of the outdoors? Do you love supporting people with disability? As part of our growing Respite Team, we are looking for two passionate Disability Respite Workers to join us and deliver individualised support and activities to NDIS participants, away from their homes, while allowing their carers a chance for a well-deserved break. 

We aim to support people living with disability to access respite services utilising a unique and flexible approach whilst promoting clients’ independence by assisting them with their choice of activity, based on their individualised NDIS goals. 

The Opportunity
The respite supports will range from several hours per day, to overnight and day time supports for multiple days in a row, up to 10 days in length. Your meals, accommodation, activities, and travel costs will be paid for.

No two respite trips are the same and as you access various properties across Australia for short term accommodation/respite purposes for our NDIS participants, you may find yourself at lunch at Maggie Beer’s in the Barossa, visiting the Remarkable Rocks on Kangaroo Island, climbing Mt Wellington in Tasmania, singing along to musicals in Melbourne, watching fairy penguins in Victor Harbor, wandering through the National Art Gallery in Canberra, sightseeing in Sydney, or enjoying a sunset dinner in Darwin.

We are looking for a suitably qualified Disability Respite Worker who will:

  • Actively promote an environment that will enhance each person’s life experience.
  • Have a history of travel and a knowledge of tourism sites within Australia.
  • Be highly organised, reliable, love a challenge, and is able to use their initiative.
  • Work respectfully with each individual who is in need of support.
  • Work in a safe manner, contributing to our safety culture and positive work environment.
 
For This Role, You Will:
  • Be providing mostly 1:1 support, however occasionally the respite break may include one or more other people. Supports will be added as necessary.
  • Be providing transport in your vehicle, a hired vehicle, or a work vehicle.
  • Assist in creating each itinerary and ensuring it is flexible for the participant during their respite, by planning meals or eating out, facilitating road/day trips, meaningful activities, and enjoyable experiences.
  • You may be required to support clients on flights interstate.
  • Be required for some weekend and public holiday support. 
  • Be ensuring that the correct documentation is taken, recorded, and received by key management personnel within strict time requirements. 
  • Have proven travelling experience.
  • Be able to handle complex or challenging situations calmly and rationally.
  • Have knowledge of NDIS processes and the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission.
  • Have strong administrative skills.

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria
  • Completion of a minimum Certificate 3 in Mental Health or Disability, Home and Community Care Sectors or relevant qualification in Social Welfare/Human Services/Behavioural Sciences, Aged Care or Leisure and Lifestyle, and
  • Minimum of 12 months of full-time equivalent experience in the Mental Health or Disability sector.
  • A current, full Australian driver’s licence and registered, roadworthy vehicle in excellent condition, with comprehensive insurance.
  • Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with technology incl. smartphones, tablets, laptops etc.
  • Fully functioning mobile phone with 4G/5G capability, internet, and Wi-Fi accessibility.

Essential Clearances/Certificates
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
  • First Aid and CPR (HLTAID009, HLTAID010, HLTAID011).
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Safe Environments Certificate.
  • NDIS Worker Orientation, New Worker Induction, Effective Communication, and Supporting Safe and Enjoyable Meals modules.
  • Medication Administration Training.
  • Manual Handling Certificate.
  • COVID 19 Vaccination (Double Vaccination status essential).
