Maggie Beer Holdings (www.maggiebeerholdings.com.au) is a publicly listed Australian organisation which owns three businesses: Maggie Beer Products, Hampers and Gifts Australia and Paris Creek Farms. Approximately 40% of the business is retail and 60% is e-commerce (www.shop.maggiebeer.com.au, www.thehamperemporium.com.au, www.giftsaustralia.com.au).   Our purpose is to create premium, innovative, and memorable food, beverage, and gifting products of the highest quality, while staying true to our values of being passionate, nimble, ambitious, inclusive, and community focused.

The purpose of the e-Commerce Buyer role is to strategically curate, source, and manage a diverse array of products for www.giftsaustralia.com.au, ensuring a compelling and customer-centric product assortment. Additionally, this role encompasses the responsibility of maintaining high availability of products on www.shop.maggiebeer.com.au. This entails proactive forecasting, planning, and procurement of inventory for both online sales and the assembly of Maggie Beer hampers.

Key responsibilities 

Product selection and curation: 

  • Select and curate products for www.giftsaustralia.com.au. 
  • Stay informed about customer preferences, competitor activities, market trends, and identify products that align with the brand.
  • Consider the impact of product selection on the overall user experience, ensuring accurate and appealing product listings that contribute to a positive online shopping journey.
  • Monitor customer reviews and feedback to understand product satisfaction and address any issues, leveraging this information for future purchasing decisions.
  • Explore and introduce new products or product categories to diversify the product offering and attract new customer segments.

Supplier management and negotiation:

  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate terms, and ensure reliable and cost-effective sources for products.
  • Negotiate favourable terms with suppliers to optimise costs while adhering to budgets and financial goals.
  • Ensure agreed standards are met (e.g. FIS, packaging, on-time delivery, quality).

Collaboration with Digital Marketing:

  • Work closely with digital marketing team to align product selection with promotional strategies and marketing campaigns.

Data analysis and performance monitoring:

  • Utilise data analytics tools to monitor product performance, analyse customer behaviour, and make data-driven decisions to optimise inventory levels and product offerings.

Forecasting and inventory management:

  • Forecast sales to meet established budgets.
  • Manage SKU data in the ERP.
  • Monitor sales and profit performance to ensure the range remains market leading to improve conversion.
  • Manage inventory levels efficiently, preventing stockouts and minimising overstock situations to maintain a healthy balance between supply and demand.

Skill Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of the products being sourced, including understanding market trends, quality standards, and customer preferences.
  • Ability to quickly pick up on trends.
  • Innovative, consistently bringing in fresh ideas.
  • Strong negotiation abilities to secure favourable terms with suppliers and optimise costs.
  • Proficiency in data analysis to interpret sales trends, forecast demand, and make data-driven decisions for inventory management.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing concepts to align product assortments with marketing strategies, ensuring consistency across promotional campaigns.
  • The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers, ensuring reliability, quality, and consistent supply chain performance.
  • A strategic mindset to align procurement activities with overall business goals, anticipate market trends, and contribute to the long-term success of the e-commerce business.
  • Proficient in demand forecasting, inventory planning, and the ability to anticipate market fluctuations to ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Experience in managing budgets for procurement activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to financial constraints.
  • The ability to quickly identify and address challenges in the procurement process, whether related to supply chain disruptions, quality issues, or other factors.
  • Precise attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills, forward thinking, resilient and highly adaptable to the needs of the business.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

About you:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in an e-commerce buying role.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in product sourcing.
  • Experience generating and maintaining forecasts.
  • Experience in the food and/or gifting industry is preferred.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining effective relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier performance.
  • A track record of achieving positive results, such as increased sales, improved inventory efficiency, and successful product launches.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing market conditions, industry trends, and evolving business requirements.
