Job description

Working as an Early Years Practitioner within the Kummara Early Years Support Service, the candidate will be able to deliver integrated services to families, particularly vulnerable and disadvantaged families, to increase parent/carer awareness of and engagement with their child's development; increased parental capabilities; healthy and happy children; and increased connection and access to the right services at the right time.

You will be planning and implementing a facilitated playgroup to support families with children 0-8 years and providing further play-based learning support to families in their homes such as access to children's support services, Early Childhood Education and Care, parenting support and engagement; access to child and mental health services,

This position will work in partnership with the community, other agencies, and professionals to ensure the family's needs are met and create opportunities and pathways for positive family functioning and well-being.

KEY DUTIES

  • Identify, plan, implement and review resources and activities for achieving funded deliverables
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of cultural groups, specifically Indigenous families and children
  • Development of culturally competent programs for families and children
  • Provide appropriate service delivery to vulnerable and disadvantaged families including assessment; goal setting; planning; case note management; reporting and exiting, while maintaining an awareness of the program and organisational objectives
  • Facilitate quality group education and skill development, for example, facilitate playgroups and evidence-based parenting programs
  • Plan and implement play-based school readiness activities and events with a focus on early numeracy and/or literacy outcomes
  • Maintain positive relationships with government, NGO, and community organisations to ensure integrated approaches
  • Support families with understanding genuine learning opportunities for children in the home and how to foster this development
  • Maintain accurate records, report writing, and data entry requirements in line with professional standards

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful you will possess:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or significant community experience in the fields related to this area of work e.g. Early Education and Family Support, Child Protection, Human Services, Social Work.
  • Demonstrated intermediate ability to use computer IT systems including MS and Excel
  • Queensland Drivers Licence
  • Obtain a positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required
