Job description

Purpose:

The Partnerships and Policy Unit is responsible for enabling the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to form effective and enduring relationships with its partners and stakeholders. The unit also creates opportunities for the voice of the Wurundjeri community to be heard in policy development and legislative reform. 

The Economic Development Manager is a vital role responsible for driving and overseeing development initiatives for the Corporation that support its economic goals and objectives. 

What you'll be doing:

  • Working on the responsibilities of the Economic Development strategy, aligned with the organisation's objectives, to identify potential opportunities and assess feasibility.
  • Providing advice on Economic Development issues and opportunities drawing on a wide range of economic data, policies, and strategies at a local, regional, state and federal level.
  • Building on the success of the Nangenala Cultural Centre, this phase aims to enhance visitor experiences and create a foundation for future projects.
  • Working in partnership with the Yoorook Justice Commission to support delivery of the Yuma Yirramboi Strategy, information exchange and to further support key deliverables. 
  • Ensure Project Plan is meeting required milestones as directed by funding bodies.
  • Identifying new business opportunities, system and operational improvements and development of career pathways and progression plans for indigenous and non-indigenous staff.  

You will have:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience developing comprehensive business cases and government funding proposals. 
  • Proven budgeting experience, including the development of detailed financial modelling, costings and budgets to support proposals for economic opportunity and business case proposals. 
  • Experience in developing strong and productive relationships, particularly with a focus on Economic Development
  • Ability to identify opportunities and develop strategies to assist in the growth of industry sectors, both existing and emerging.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • The ability to conduct duties in a confidential and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal cultures and matters including cultural safety and social issues. 
  • Ability to support positive working relationships with Wurundjeri elders and members.

The successful candidate will hold:

  • A tertiary qualification in business or economics (or similar) 
  • Demonstrated expertise in the development and implementation of Economic Development and investment attraction strategies. 
  • Excellent research, report writing and analytic skills, including the development of business cases, with supporting financial modelling and strategic outcomes focus. 
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering and promoting business, industry and development services to support economic growth and diversity.
  • Advanced proficiency in using Microsoft 365 Office Suite, particularly Excel.
