About the role

This key role will develop a sound understanding of the key issues, opportunities and challenges in regional economies and the role Project Marinus can play in those communities. This understanding will help to identify the potential economic, community, employment and innovation opportunities arising from the Project and its work streams.

The Economic Development Specialist will build relationships and seek to create partnerships which encourage and promote activities that contribute to the delivery of regional economic programs and benefits. This work will include developing strategies to drive, leverage and maximise regional benefits from Marinus Link and supporting North West transmission developments as well as identify future trends and associated opportunities.

About the Business

At TasNetworks, we own, operate and maintain the electricity transmission and distribution networks in Tasmania, together with a supporting telecommunications network. We deliver a safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity supply to more than 285,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Tasmania. We also provide a connection to the Basslink undersea interconnector, and our network supports energy supply to customers in the broader National Electricity Market.

The National Electricity Market is transforming as new energy generation infrastructure replaces ageing infrastructure. Marinus Link and supporting transmission developments can support this transition by providing access to a low-cost, clean and reliable energy supply for customers.

Marinus Link is a proposed 1500 megawatt capacity undersea and underground electricity interconnector between the Tasmanian and Victorian transmission networks. Marinus Link will also strengthen telecommunications service provision across Bass Strait. Marinus Link and supporting transmission developments can play a key role in Australia€™s future electricity grid, as the largest proposed infrastructure project in Tasmania€™s history unlocking abundant wind and hydro resources.

About you

You will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build relationships, consult and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people. Your proven strategy, research, analytical and conceptual skills will assist you to understand a range of complex and technical project elements and their potential to benefit customers, communities, and broader regions, particularly North West Tasmania and Gippsland in Victoria. Your knowledge and experience relating to local government, regional Economic Development and industry support will enable you to succeed in this exciting opportunity. Similarly, your experience with working on projects where there is significant stakeholder scrutiny, rigorous governance requirements and continuous change will enable you to effectively navigate through challenges and achieve desired objectives.
