Education Access Worker

About the role:
Part –time opportunities on offer to join the Institute as an Education Access Work on a Part-time basis to deliver and provide reasonable adjustment in the form of individual academic support, to students registered with the Access & Disability Service.
Support may also be delivered to students in the Access & Disability Service Access Hub (extracurricular support) or during theory assessments or exams.
Support is generally provided to students on a one to one basis, but may extend to small groups, as directed by the Access & Disability Coordinator.
Key duties and responsibilities:
  • Attend scheduled classes and take comprehensive and accurate notes with the use of a laptop computer or other approved device (supplied by Institute).
  • Take photos of information presented as visual demonstrations or diagram/text on whiteboard, to include in student notes.
  • Edit and distribute class notes to student on same day as scheduled class (or within 24 hours for evening classes).
  • Facilitate access to information, comprehension and participation for students.
  • Attend Education Access Worker training sessions.
  • Engage and support students registered with the Access & Disability Service

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Disability, Education Support or similar discipline and/or demonstrated relevant experience in supporting youth or adults within the tertiary education sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal and English language communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to liaise with staff and students.
  • Proficiency in note taking using Microsoft suite and standard computer desktop software.
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of visible and hidden conditions, including mental health conditions, and the impact on learning which may occur.
  • Knowledge and understanding of inclusive language and the person centred approach to supporting adult learners.
  • Knowledge of current anti-discrimination and equity legislation.
  • Demonstrated behaviours that align with the William Angliss Institute Values.
